Luke Owen McIntier
It was a blizzardy week leading up to Luke's arrival! I had an induction date set for January 18th for that exact reason! I didnt' want to be snowed in and have a baby at home! no thanks! the kids had snow days Monday Tuesday Wednesday because of the crazy weather and being snowed in. Lee had to ride his snowmobile to tri state tire just to get to work haha Thursday we finally had a path in and out and kids went to school then Friday the wind picked back up and started blowing us in again. My Mom arrived Thursday to stay for baby and to avoid the snow that was supposed to come Friday and it's a good thing she did! Friday morning was another snow day for the kids and lee left for work and a couple hours later that wind came back and was blowing us in again! I quickly packed a few other things in our hospital bag and made Lee come back and get me! he was working in rexburg Friday so he came and got me and I hung out at his Aunt and Uncles house for the day while he worked and then we stayed the night at their house since i was to be induced in the morning. they were awesome hosts and it was so nice of them let us stay in their extra room and i didn't have to stress about being snowed in. Saturday Morning we called the hospital and they told us to come in at 6:30am so we got our things ready and Lee gave me a blessing and we headed up to the hospital which was only a 2min drive away. So nice not being in labor in the car for 30mins lol We got there at 6:30am and i got changed into the hospital gown they started asking all those questions they have to ask and I got my IV in and so good fluids so that when it came time for the epidural my blood pressure wouldn't drop like last time! putting in the IV the nurse had to try twice adn that first try HURT lol i got a good bruise from it. And the nurse used to be in our ward so that was kinda fun i knew her. She was technically there for the baby but was putting in my IV while my nurse was asking questions and putting stuff into the computer. so i got my IV and around 8am I got my epidural placed. the anesthesiologist kept asking me if i could feel it on one side more than the other and i could feel him moving it around! ew ew ew! but he got it done perfectly and i was perfectly numbed but could still feel pressure which was perfect and i could still kinda move my legs which was even better than being ridiculously numbed. then around 9am Marie my midwife came in and broke my water!I was still dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced but knew things would get moving once my water broke and they did! about 10ish or 11 i was finally a 4 and Lee and i just hung out and watched karate kid on his laptop and hung out until just before noon when my nurse came in to check on me cuz the baby's heart rate was dropping a little with my contractions so she decided to check me and see how dilated i was and i was an 8 so she called up marie to the room adn the other nurse and started getting everything ready for baby and within the next 20mins i was pushing! it all happened so fast haha i pushed for about 5ish minutes or so 4 pushes with contractions and Luke was born! I wasn't expecting to have to push as much as i did because sydon just slid right out. Luke made me work for him haha he was crowning and everyone was telling me how much hair he had! haha He was borna at 12:10pm. came out crying a little and then just was looking around and super chill! He weighed 7lbs 10oz and was 20.5inches long. we got to snuggle for almost an hour and then I was off to surgery to get my tubal done! It seemed kinda rushed but I was still confident in my decision. so the anesthesiologist came back and pumped a last dose of epidural stuff in me then disconnected everything and they wheeled me out on the bed to the surgery room! Lee wanted to come watch but of course they wouldn't let him haha He stayed with the baby and to the mother baby unit to wait for me. Luckily Julie and carson were in town so they came to see baby and kept Lee company while i was in surgery. So i got wheeled to the surgery room and the anesthesiologist gave me some drugs to make me sleepy and chill out but i was still awake so i could respond to questions and things. Soooo weird and those drugs really did make me sleepy! i could not keep my eyes open but i was fighting to keep them open but my eyes were just rolling around in my head haha so i heard bits and pieces of conversations between the drs and nurses and the anesthesiologist told me to take a deep breath a couple of times. before surgery started Dr. Codd who was doing the surgery told me " You just had a birthday party! now it's time for your retirement party!" hahaha! while in surgery i heard him say we were half way done. and i heard another nurse say " that was a nice big section you got out of that side" and then it was all done and heard them count to 3 and lift me up with a sheet to switch beds and go to the recovery room. it felt like minutes to me but it was less than 2hrs. in recovery they i was still sooo out of it and my tongue felt numb lol and i was still sooo tired they would ask me questions adn i could shake and nod my head and they gave me some water but i couldn't open my eyes i was so tired haha and then they were wheeling me back to the room where lee was waiting in the mother baby unit. I could hear the nurse telling him i was sleepy from the phentanol? so? medicine they gave me and then i felt Lee come over and rub my forehead and i could hear Julie and Carson in the room and I was trying to wake up to say hi but i couldn't do it but then they were leaving anyways. I slept off the drugs for several hours afterwards before i could open my eyes for a little bit lol The surgery was pretty quick and easy and just a small incision under my belly button. everything went good. and after that evening the kids came with GG and visited baby! they all love him! Landon and Zeke shoveled out the driveway Saturday morning so they could come see the baby as soon as he arrived haha then after the kids left Lee's cousin and his wife came and visited. luckily i was alert enough and able to enjoy their visit. a nurse came in and gave me some IV pain killers and then 20mins later i was like ummmm i think i'm gonna puke! and i was soooo close to puking and she couldnt' find the barf bags but pushed the trash can over for me but luckily i was able to keep it down. lol i hadn't eaten anything at all that whole day and after surgery i hadn't been hungry so the meds hit me hard and made me nauseous. but luckily it passed. Dr. Codd told me we could go home Sunday if we wanted and after one night on the hospital bed i decided yes we wanted to try and go home Sunday. we got home around 3 in the afternoon Sunday and it was so nice to be home. I just slept on the couch pretty much and took my pain meds religiously and was told not to lift anything except baby for 2 weeks. I was pretty emotional those first few days home and day 2 or 3 i don't remember which was the worst pain wise. my whole abdomen hurt and i was super crampy in front and in my back adn laying down hurt but i was so tired and i was just crying and had to sleep sitting up propped up with pillows cuz the pressure of laying on my back hurt and laying on my sides was worse adn on my swollen belly was not an option. the first week being home i pretty much hung out on the couch and would fall asleep and i'd slowly move around to go potty or walk around just a little. so thankful for my momma taking care of the kids and meals that whole first week. i coudlnt' have done it without her. I survived my second week without her but i wasnt' happy about it haha i wish she could of stayed for two weeks! but the end of each day i was hurting and limping around cuz my right hip area where surgery was done on that side was a stabbing pain but luckily the heat pad was my best friend. that and motrin. it's now wednesday of week3 and over all i feel great and back to normal i jsut have no core muscles and tire easily still despite all the motivation i have to do things around the house but i'm being good and not overdoing it so i can heal up properly from birthing and surgery. we're all just in LOVE with Luke! he's such a good baby. sleeps for 3-4hrs at night and doesnt' cry! he just makes little noises and i wake up and feed him and he goes back to sleep! he's just perfect and i'm soaking up alllll the baby cuddles.
